ARCHIVED: Differences between CN Post and the full version of the CN

Important:

Indiana University's contract with CourseNetworking (CN Post) ended on December 31, 2023, and the CN Post tool has been removed from Canvas. UITS recommends using InScribe 2.0 as a replacement for the social, peer-to-peer discussion aspects of CN Post. For a list of alternative ePortfolio platforms, see ePortfolio software options.

CourseNetworking provides lifelong access to ePortfolios you've already created; you can log into CN to access them. For issues accessing existing ePortfolios in CourseNetworking, contact help@coursenetworking.com.

CN Post is a simplified version of CourseNetworking, the academic social networking service also known as the CN, and available within Canvas at Indiana University. CN Post keeps most of the social and engagement features that a typical CN course site has, such as Posts, Polls, Events, hashtags, Global Posts, Anar seeds, and engagement analytics, but eliminates learning management features that Canvas already offers, such as Tasks, Syllabus, GradeBook, DropBox, and Quizzes.

Within the CN Post tool in Canvas, you can visit the full CN. From the left menu of CN Post, click Go to Full CN.

Instructors can set the full version of a CN course as the default display page for a Canvas site. To do so:

  1. In the left menu of CN Post, click Go to Full CN.
  2. Next to the course name, click the gear icon, and choose Basic Course Settings.
  3. At the bottom of the page, check the box for Open the full CN version, instead of CN Posts.
  4. Click Save and Exit.

After this setting change is complete, course members who click the CN Post tab in Canvas will go to the full CN course site.
