Overview
IU Desktop brings together the applications students need in one place, including Canvas, IU email, and storage through Google at IU My Drive or Microsoft OneDrive at IU. It also provides quick shortcuts to your Canvas courses, assignments and announcements, and to-dos. Additionally, you can use IU Desktop to access all the tools of the Student Center, as well as tasks through One.IU. It is available for both Windows and Mac.
Download and install IU Desktop
IU Desktop is currently in beta testing. If you are a member of the beta testing group, download IU Desktop from https://iu.edu/desktop.
Run the download and follow the instructions to install IU Desktop on your computer.
The first time you run IU Desktop, you may see a warning about installing software from unknown sources:
- On a Mac, you will see a warning that "'IU Desktop' is an application downloaded from the Internet". To proceed, click .
- In Windows, you may see a warning that "Windows protected your PC". To proceed, click , and then .
Log into IU Desktop
Whenever you start IU Desktop, you will be prompted to log into your IU applications:
- First, log in using your IU username and passphrase. Canvas will then ask you to give IU Desktop access to your account; click .
- Next, as you select the application tabs at the bottom left, you may be asked to log in to access the rest of your applications; use your IU username and passphrase, and authenticate with Two-Step Login (Duo).
IU Desktop will store your credentials so you can continue to use the applications; however, you may be asked to log in again periodically to refresh your access. If you have any questions or concerns, contact your campus Support Center.
