Submit your CrimsonCard photo online

Incoming students and staff who have never received a CrimsonCard are encouraged to submit ID photos online. To submit as a student, you must be either actively enrolled in at least one credit hour for the current or upcoming semester, or signed up for New Student Orientation. To submit as an employee, your University Hire eDoc must have been finalized at least 2 days previously. If you believe you are eligible but the website is not allowing you to submit, wait at least one business day and try again.

The requirements for an acceptable CrimsonCard photo are similar to those of a passport or driver’s license, although smiling is allowed:

  • Your photo must be framed passport-style: forward-facing, with your head and the top of your shoulders in frame.
  • Your face must be centered with eyes and features clearly visible.
  • The background must be solid, smooth, and white, light-colored, or gray.
  • The photo must be in color (not black and white).
  • The photo must not be filtered or altered in appearance.
  • The photo must be current (taken within the last six months).
  • Your face should show a natural/neutral expression or smile.
  • The photo must include only your face (no pets, friends, props, leaning on hands, etc.).
  • Your face and head should be unobscured: no hats, caps, sunglasses, headphones, scarves, etc. Religious head coverings are permitted.
  • The photo must be in .jpg (or .jpeg) file format.
  • The photo file size may not be larger than 3 MB.

To submit your photo, go to Submitting an ID Photo. At the bottom of the page, click Upload (requires IU login), and log in with your IU username and passphrase. Then, use the provided drop-down menu to select a pickup location.

Note:
If you are attending New Student Orientation, select the designated "Orientation" option of the campus you will be attending.

Once you have confirmed that your photo meets all the listed requirements, upload it by clicking Browse, and then click Continue. Check that the photo preview looks correct, and then click Submit. Your photo will be routed for review, which can take up to three business days. Once your photo has been reviewed, you will receive an automated email message informing you whether your photo was approved or rejected. If your submission is rejected, the message will include one or more reasons for rejection. You can then submit another photo.

Once your photo has been approved, if you are attending New Student Orientation or are part of certain select programs, you may receive specific instructions to obtain your card. Otherwise, bring a valid photo ID to your selected pickup location and let the staff know you're there to pick up your CrimsonCard and that your photo has already been approved. They will either have the card already printed or print it out for you.
