Configure Exchange Online with the Outlook Mobile app on iOS and Android


Overview

At IU, Exchange Online allows you to access email, calendar, contacts, and tasks from your personal computer, the web, and mobile devices.
Important:
IU's Exchange Online environment does not support IMAP. For email configuration instructions, including details for those using Linux and Thunderbird, see Configure your email client for Exchange Online.

Before you begin

Before setting up Exchange Online on your device, you must delete any previously existing Exchange email account:

  1. Open the app, and select your icon on the upper left.
  2. At the bottom of the screen on the left, choose the Settings icon.
  3. Select the account to remove.
  4. Scroll down and select Delete Account, and then Delete. You may also get a prompt to remove data. Continue with the deletion.

Setup

To set up your Exchange Online account in the Outlook Mobile app on your Android or iOS device:

  1. Open the Outlook app. If it is not already installed, download it from the Play Store (Android) or the App Store (iOS).
    Note:
    If you already had your Exchange account set up before your Exchange Online migration, select your circular account icon (upper left). In Outlook Mobile, tap the settings gear icon (lower left), select your old Exchange account from the "Mail Accounts" section, and select Delete Account to remove your old account before proceeding.
  2. In Android, tap Add Account, enter your @iu.edu email address, and tap Continue. In iOS, in the "Add Account" screen, enter your @iu.edu email address, and then tap Add Account.
    Note:
    If prompted for an account type, select Office 365. If prompted to select a personal account or a work or school account, select work or school account.
  3. At the prompt, enter your passphrase, and authenticate with Two-Step Login (Duo).
    Note:
    If you are not prompted to authenticate with Two-Step Login (Duo), and you see an error that says "We're sorry, access is not allowed because you are not enrolled. Please contact your organization's IT help desk for assistance", you'll need to enroll a device in Duo before you can proceed. For more, see Get started with Two-Step Login (Duo) at IU.
  4. At the "Add another account screen", if you would like to add another account, click Add and follow the prompts. Otherwise, click Maybe Later. Click through or skip the introductory information.
Note:
When you add an Exchange Online account to Outlook Mobile, it will show shared calendars that you may have added with other clients (such as Outlook on the web and Outlook for desktop) in the Calendars tab. To select/deselect specific calendars, tap the calendar icon, and then tap the person icon at the top left to view the calendar list. You can also add additional calendars to the list by clicking the + (plus sign) icon at the top left in the list view.
