About Posit Connect at IU

Posit Connect is a publishing platform for deploying interactive applications written in R or Python over the web. Posit Connect offers several advantages over more commercial offerings such as shinyapps.io. These include integration with IU's identity management, allowing you to publish to specific IU users or groups, and more generous data storage and computation limits. Additionally, many of the premium features of commercial offerings (for example, content URLs) are provided with this service.

  • IU's Posit Connect service is hosted at connect.posit.iu.edu .
  • Currently, the service is open for use cases in support of IU's research and teaching mission. To request access, go to RT Projects and create a project with a Posit Connect service allocation. For more on RT Projects, see About RT Projects at IU.
  • The limit on application size is 100 MB per application.
  • An additional 100 GB of storage space is allocated per department for data supporting applications. This storage is available via SFTP at sftp.rstudio.iu.edu and is managed by each individual department.
  • IU's Posit Connect service does not support data classified by the university as Critical or Restricted data.
  • The system is not backed up. Users are responsible for backing up their applications and data.
  • You can publish from any device that can connect to connect.posit.iu.edu . Research Technologies staff provide official support and troubleshooting for publishing from Research Desktop (RED).

If you are using Research Desktop (RED) and need help or have questions, use this form to contact the Research Desktop development team directly.
