Edit or delete web redirects and apps in your Canvas course

In Canvas, it's not possible to give instructors permission to delete or modify external apps added to their courses without also allowing them to add new external apps, which does not align with Indiana University policy. To address this limitation, IU has developed the Edit/Delete Course Apps utility, which allows instructors to edit or delete web links in the course navigation (or elsewhere) that were created with the Redirect tool, and also allows instructors to delete any external app that has been added to the course or imported from another course.

To use the Edit/Delete Course Apps utility:

  1. In Canvas, navigate to the course containing the app(s) you wish to edit or delete.
  2. In the course navigation menu, click Settings, and then click Apps to open the "External Apps" page.
  3. At the top of the "External Apps" page, click Edit/Delete Course Apps.
  4. A list of the external apps that have been added or imported into your course will appear. You can delete any item in the list and edit items created with the Redirect tool.
    • To edit a web redirect, to the right of the app name, click Edit. Use the pop-up window to edit the name, URL, or course navigation setting for the redirect, and then click Save to save your changes.
    • To delete any item in the list, to the right of the app name, click Delete. When prompted to confirm, click Yes, Delete to delete the app.
      Important:
If your course includes digital learning tools or courseware ordered though the IU eTexts program, take care not to delete any apps added by the Canvas admins for your eText order. If you are uncertain about the status or purpose of an app in the list, contact your campus Support Center before attempting to delete it.
