ARCHIVED: Email at IU
Your IU email account and address
Users who have an Indiana University Network ID are eligible for accounts on one or more of IU's email systems:
- Faculty, staff, and affiliates can have Cyrus or IU
Exchange accounts. Cyrus accounts are available to all IU
employees, including student and hourly employees. IU Exchange
accounts are available to employees who need the calendaring and other
functions of the Microsoft Exchange system. Your eligibility will be
handled by the Account Management Service automatically.
- Students can have Imail or Umail accounts.
You will create your IU email account when you create the rest of your
IU computing accounts with the Account Management Service. Regardless
which account you use, your IU email address consists of your Network
ID username plus the domain for your campus (e.g.,
username@indiana.edu
or
username@iupui.edu
).
- Create your first IU computing accounts (admitted students, faculty, staff, affiliates, and those returning to IU)
- Your IU email address
Access
You can access your IU email either through a dedicated email client program or through a web browser. Browser-based email (e.g., IU Webmail, Outlook Web App) generally offers fewer features, but allows you to send and receive email from anywhere without installing or configuring special software.

Policies and mass mailings
Your use of email at IU is governed by university policies on acceptable use, including use of lists or mass mailings.
Problems with your email account
If you have problems with your IU email account, consult the following information or contact your campus Support Center:

passphrase to your email account, you will need to reset your
passphrase. Students can access Imail and Umail with a vendor
password.

- ARCHIVED: At IU, how do I set or reset my vendor password for Imail or Umail?
- Storage: If you have exceeded the storage space
for your email account (i.e., you have saved or retained too many
messages or large attachments in your mail folders), you may be
notified by email, and then be prevented from sending or receiving
mail.
- Other problems: If you have further problems with your IU email account, you can contact your campus Support Center. See Contact your campus IT Support Center
