Many shareware and public domain programs are available for printing routing bar codes on envelopes; see ARCHIVED: For Microsoft Windows, how can I get freeware and shareware? or ARCHIVED: For Mac OS X, where can I download freeware, shareware, commercial software, and software updates? Also, TrueType fonts exist for most bar code formats. Additionally, word processing programs, including Microsoft Word and WordPerfect, have options for printing bar codes on envelopes. See the instructions below.

Note: POSTNET bar codes are valid only with US addresses.

Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word 2007 does not support this feature; see ARCHIVED: What functionalities available in Microsoft Word 2003 are not available in Word 2007?

WordPerfect 9

WordPerfect will then ask for a nine- or five-digit zip code, as well as a location to print the bar code (either above or below the mailing address). You must select one of these two radio buttons; if you leave the None radio button checked, WordPerfect will not print the bar code.
