Daylight Saving Time (DST) begins on the second Sunday of March and ends on the first Sunday in November in the US. For exact dates, see ARCHIVED: What are the start and end dates for Daylight Saving Time in the US?

Windows 7 and Vista

To open the Date and Time window, right-click the clock and choose Adjust date/time. Alternatively, from the Control Panel, open Date and Time.

Changing the date and time

  1. In the Date and Time window, click Change date and time.... User Account Control will ask for your permission to continue, and may require you to provide administrator credentials. Click Yes or Continue.
  2. In the Date and Time Settings window, change the time by entering new values, or by using the up and down arrows.

    To change the date, click the appropriate date on the calendar.

  3. Click OK.

Changing the time zone

  1. In the Date and Time window, click Change time zone....
  2. Use the drop-down list to choose the appropriate time zone, and then click OK.

    Note: Though Windows has an option for (UTC-05:00) Indiana (East), the option for (UTC-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada) is actually correct for most of Indiana, which now observes DST.

Windows XP

To open the Date and Time Properties window, double-click the clock, or right-click the clock and choose Adjust Date/Time. Alternatively, from the Control Panel, open Date and Time.

Note: If the clock is not visible in the Taskbar, change your clock display settings by right-clicking a blank portion of the Taskbar, choosing Properties, and checking or unchecking Show the Clock. You can also change this and other Taskbar settings through the Start menu, via Settings or the Control Panel.

Changing the date and time

  1. In the Date and Time Properties window, change the time by entering new values, or by using the up and down arrows.

    To change the date, click the appropriate date on the calendar.

  2. Click Apply, and then OK.

Changing the time zone

  1. In the Date and Time Properties window, click the Time Zone tab.
  2. Use the drop-down list to choose the appropriate time zone, and check the box at the bottom if you want your computer to automatically adjust for DST. Click OK.
