Microsoft SharePoint Online and the IU Web Content Management Service

The Microsoft SharePoint Online service is not intended to replace the IU Web Content Management System (WCMS). SharePoint Online is an excellent tool for creating intradepartmental websites that require users to authenticate to gain access, and is also excellent for collaboration and file sharing. Such functionality is often needed in "internal" websites.

The WCMS is the preferred tool for publishing to websites that represent IU to the public (anonymous access). UITS strongly encourages the IU community to use the WCMS service for such external sites, and to limit SharePoint use to internal sites.
