ARCHIVED: At IU, what is a legacy system?

This content has been archived, and is no longer maintained by Indiana University. Information here may no longer be accurate, and links may no longer be available or reliable.

A legacy system at Indiana University is one that will not receive any further development or enhancement. Typically, once a system has been declared a legacy system, UITS will not change it except to apply patches that prevent security risks. With rare exceptions, new accounts are generally not created on legacy systems.

A system is often designated a legacy system as part of a plan to retire it.
