ARCHIVED: In Unix, how can I display a calendar?

This content has been archived, and is no longer maintained by Indiana University. Information here may no longer be accurate, and links may no longer be available or reliable.

The Unix utility cal will display a calendar for an entire year or for just a month. For example, to display a calendar for the year 2001, at your Unix shell prompt, enter:

  cal 2001

To display only one month, precede the year with the numeric form of the month you want to see. For example, to see the calendar for June 1969, you would enter:

  cal 6 1969

Note: You can't shorten the year to two digits (i.e., you can't write 1996 as 96). Also, if you want to display the current date and time, you should use the date command.
