Students, faculty, and staff
If you are a student who has been admitted to the university and to the appropriate school within the university, a faculty or staff member whose paperwork has been processed by IU Human Resources (HR), or a sponsored IU affiliate, you can create your first Indiana University computing accounts by using the Account Management Service (AMS).
- To create your first computing accounts from any
Internet-connected computer, follow these steps:
- Go to the Account Management Service at:
https://itaccounts.iu.edu/
Note: You will need to know your 10-digit University ID number to create your initial accounts. See At IU, what is a University ID, and how do I find out what mine is?
- Click

- Over the next several pages, the AMS will display the rules and
policies for IT account use at IU. After you have read each page,

student and a staff member), you will have to select one role to be
your primary affiliation at IU. Select the role you want, and then
click

If the account creation process doesn't work for you or you encounter problems with the AMS, be sure to write down the full text of any error messages, and then contact the UITS Support Center.
International students
You will receive your accounts at the International Services new student orientation during the Student Technology at IU sessions.
IEP students
You will be considered an IU affiliate once your sponsorship is established. You will then be able to use the AMS, providing that you have picked up your ten-digit University ID (UID) from the Center for English Language Training (CELT) office in Memorial Hall 313.
Independent Studies, Continuing Studies, and other special students
Independent and Continuing Studies students must go to their departmental office or advisor to request IU computer accounts. Departments may make that request using the AMS. For more information, see Information about sponsored computing accounts for IU affiliates.
Groups, organizations, and departments
Departments or groups at IU may have computing accounts. Before your group or department can be issued technology accounts at IU, you will need a faculty or staff sponsor to request a username for the account. To request a username, faculty and staff should follow the directions below:
- Go to the Account Management Service at: https://itaccounts.iu.edu/
- Select
Manage my IU computing accounts.
- You might see a page asking you to log into the Central
Authentication Service; if so, enter your Network
ID. If not, skip to the next step.
- Click
request new group username.
- Enter and re-enter the group username you want in the first two
fields; in the "Display name:" field, enter the full name of your
group. Select the campus and department associated with the group,
and enter a brief description of the group's purpose.
- Click
Submit.
When your username request has been approved, you can create your group's first Indiana University computing accounts by using the Account Management Service (AMS).
Your group or departmental accounts will usually include a Network ID account, which allows you to create and manage other technology accounts as well as log into certain university services; an ADS domain account, which allows you to authenticate to university resources; and an email account.
To create your initial IU group or departmental accounts, follow the directions below:
- Go to the Account Management Service at: https://itaccounts.iu.edu/
- Select

- Click
Submit.
