ARCHIVED: Is Microsoft Photo Editor part of Microsoft Office for Windows?

This content has been archived, and is no longer maintained by Indiana University. Information here may no longer be accurate, and links may no longer be available or reliable.

In Microsoft Office 2003 and later, Microsoft Photo Editor is not included.

In earlier versions of Microsoft Office for Windows, Microsoft Photo Editor is part of Office, but in some cases it might not be installed by default. When installing Office, choose the Custom installation option to select which modules of Office to install. Photo Editor is in the "Office Tools" category.

If you have already installed Office, you can also install Photo Editor and other Office components by following these steps:

  1. If you are using Windows NT, 2000, or XP, log in as an administrator.
    Note:
Security of Information Technology Resources (IT-12) requires that you normally refrain from running your Windows computer as an administrator. For more, see About the principle of least privilege.
  2. Insert the Office CD-ROM.
  3. The installer should start automatically. If it does not, use Windows Explorer to browse the CD-ROM and double-click Setup, Setupprm, or Setuppls (or Setup.exe, Setupprm.exe, or Setuppls.exe, depending on your Windows Explorer display settings).
  4. In the installation options, click Add/Remove.
  5. For Office 2000 and XP, click the + (plus sign) next to "Office Tools" and then the icon next to "Microsoft Photo Editor". Then select Run from my computer.

For Office 97, select Office Tools, and then click Change Option. Make sure the box next to Photo Editor is checked.

  6. For Office 2000 or XP, click Update, and then OK.

For Office 97, click OK, and then Continue.
