In Mac OS and Mac OS X, what is the Command key?

Note: In the Knowledge Base, the Command key is usually abbreviated Cmd.

The Command key (the Apple key) is the most common modifier key in Mac OS and Mac OS X. The Mac keyboard usually has one Command key on each side of the Spacebar. Many menu items, such as Quit, Close, and Save, have a keystroke shortcut using the Command key. To use such a shortcut, hold down one of the Command keys and press the letter key for that item. For example, to save a document in most applications, hold down Cmd and press  s .
