ARCHIVED: Information about uninstalling Symantec/Norton AntiVirus in Windows
Note: If you wish to uninstall Symantec/Norton AntiVirus (SAV/NAV), be sure that you safely replace it with a new antivirus program; see ARCHIVED: Safely upgrade security software in Windows 7
Several components are installed with all SAV/NAV software versions, and each must be removed in order for your uninstall to be successful. An incomplete uninstall can result in an error message that SAV/NAV is already installed (when you attempt to install a new version), or you may simply be unable to run LiveUpdate.
- To completely uninstall SAV/NAV, see ARCHIVED: In Windows, how do I uninstall programs? Be sure to
disable any real-time monitoring (e.g., Auto-Protect). You will then
need to remove any of the following programs, and any other programs
beginning with either "Symantec" or "Norton":

- If, after using the Add/Remove programs feature, any programs in the left column above are still on your computer, refer to Symantec support for further information. At Indiana University, you can also contact your campus Support Center for assistance.
- If, after using Add/Remove programs, any programs in the right column above are still on your computer, you can try using the Norton Removal Tool to remove them; for help, see the Symantec knowledge base.
