Creating a chat room

To create a chat room for your course in Oncourse, follow these steps:

  2. Click Create/Edit Chat Rooms.
  3. Click the blue plus sign icon next to "New Item".
  4. In the "Title" field, enter a name for the chat room. In the "Description" field, enter a short description.

For more information about creating groups, see the Knowledge Base document ARCHIVED: In Oncourse, how can I organize my class into groups?
  6. Under "Advanced Settings", you can choose whether or not you would like to keep an archive of the chat room. You can also choose to change the active chat time, which determines how long text posted in a chat room remains visible.
  7. Click OK to create the chat room.

Changing settings for a chat room

To change the settings for a particular chat room, access the Create/Edit Chat Rooms as described above. Click the pencil icon next to the chat room you want to edit. Under "General Settings" you can change the title or "Viewable By" fields. Under "Advanced Settings" you can determine whether to archive the chat room and how long messages remain visible on the screen after posting.

Deleting a chat room

To delete a chat room, access "Create/Edit Chat Rooms" as described above. Check the box next to the appropriate chat room, then click the button with the red "x" next to "Delete Selected Items". Click OK when prompted to confirm the deletion.
