At IU, what is a Guest account?
If you have no formal relationship with Indiana University, you can use the Account Management Service (AMS) to create a Guest account, which will give you limited access to certain online applications and services of the university. The amount of access is determined by the particular application.
Note: For all Guest accounts, the full email address
provided (e.g., foo@hotmail.com ) is the
account's username. You must enter the full address
when asked for a username to successfully log into
(authenticate to) the online applications and services of
the university.
Note: IU Guest accounts do not have access to all the services offered by UITS or the university. Among the services not available to Guest accounts are IUware (software available for download), email (including IU Webmail), and access to computers in IU Student Technology Centers.
Note: Guest accounts will not allow authentication to ITHelpLive, but Guest account users may use all the other support options described in How do I contact my campus Support Center, and what are the hours and options for help?
To create an account, see At IU, how do I create a Guest account?
Guest accounts are entirely separate from IU Affiliate accounts and Network Access accounts. IU Affiliate accounts are sponsored accounts for those who are affiliated with IU, such as contractors and researchers, but who are not officially students, faculty, or staff. For details, see Information about sponsored computing accounts for IU affiliates. Network Access accounts offer limited, temporary access to the IU network for visitors who need Internet access via their personal computers, such as conference attendees. For more, see At IUB and IUPUI, what is a Network Access account, and how do I get one?
