At IU, how do I view my grades and class performance?

Note: Since grades are considered private information, you as the student are the only person who can access them. You can, however, print a paper copy to share with others (e.g., parents); additionally, you can grant them third-party access to your personal information. For more information about setting up third-party access, see As an IU student, how do I allow someone to view my personal information, such as my class schedule or grades?

Official grades

To review your final grades in Indiana University courses for individual terms:

  1. Log into OneStart. The "Student Center" area should be visible; if it is not, select the Services tab, and choose the Student Self-Service section on the left.

    Click Go to Student Center.

Note: The Student Center and other Self-Service applications use pop-up pages and subpages. If your Internet pop-up blocker is set to block all pop-ups, you'll need to turn it off or change the setting to allow them; see How do I enable or disable pop-ups in web browsers? For further assistance, contact your local Support Center.

  2. Under "Academics", click My Academics & Grades; on the following page, under "Term Information", click View Grades.

  3. Select the radio button for the term you want to view, and then click Continue.

A blank grade signifies that the roster for the course has not yet been processed. Typically, most grades are processed a week after the end of final examinations, and are available in the Student Center one day thereafter.

The grade field will be blank as soon as you enroll for a semester. If you withdraw from or drop a course after the 100% refund period for the semester, a grade of W will appear.

Note: If you have unfulfilled waitlist requests, they will show on View My Grades (with no grade). These will not show on either your printed official or unofficial transcripts.

For more about grading policies and the computation of grade point averages, visit the web page for your campus registrar.

Performance Roster

To view your Performance Roster:

  1. Follow steps 1-3 from "Official grades" above.

  2. On the My Academics & Grades page, below the "Class Grades" section, you will see a section for "Performance Roster". If your instructors have entered any information about your performance, you will see that information listed in the columns below the class.

Note: An instructor can enter your performance for each component of the class (Lecture, Lab, Discussion).

  3. Below each class you will see four assessment columns for each class:

    • Attendance
    • Trends
    • Flags
    • Recommended Action

Note: This information can be submitted by the instructor several times throughout the term. The current display is your most recent performance information for the class. To view previously entered performance information for the class, click Performance History.

If your course site in Oncourse has the Gradebook tool enabled, you can also access your Performance Roster from the Gradebook.

For more regarding your class performance, contact your class instructor.

Unofficial grades

Some instructors report unofficial grades for individual courses through Oncourse, using the Gradebook or Post'Em tools. For more, see Using Oncourse Gradebook, how do I view grades? and Using Oncourse Post'Em, how do I view feedback in a posted file?

Note: The primary interface for Post'Em is within Oncourse. For help with the legacy (stand-alone) version of Post'Em, contact Bloomington Evaluation Services and Testing (BEST) at 812-855-2510.
