What is Cyrus mail?
Note: On October 29, 2009, UITS began migrating undergraduate student accounts from the IU Webmail (Cyrus) system to the Google-sponsored Umail system. For more, see About the automatic email account migration from IU Webmail (Cyrus) to Umail.
Cyrus mail is Indiana University's IMAP email system. You can access your Cyrus mail account through IU Webmail or via a desktop client such as Eudora, Mac OS X Mail, or Thunderbird. For a list of available desktop clients and links to configuration instructions, see Reading your Cyrus mail using a desktop email client.
In Cyrus mail, users do not receive their email on an individual
IMAP server. Instead, the single hostname imap.iu.edu
connects users to the IMAP environment, where mail is stored on a SAN
(Storage Area Network). The default quota on Cyrus mail is 100MB.
For more information about the email systems available at IU, see Email at each IU campus.
