At IU, how do I opt out of the spam quarantine service?
If you're going away on vacation, or are otherwise unable to monitor your email account for five days, or if you'd rather not participate in the spam quarantine service at all, you can easily opt out of the service to prevent the system from deleting messages from your quarantine folder. To do so, follow these instructions:
-
Cyrus/Webmail: To opt out, simply change the name
of the
Spamfolder, or delete it. If the service can't find aSpamfolder in your account, it automatically sends all filtered messages to your Inbox. To opt back in, change the folder name back to Spam, or (if you deleted it) recreate theSpamfolder.Note: To filter messages properly, the
Spamfolder must be located directly off your Inbox (i.e., it cannot be a subfolder within another folder in your Inbox). Consequently, another way to opt out of the service (instead of renaming or deleting the folder) is to move it into another folder. -
Exchange: To opt out, you must log into
Outlook Web Access (OWA) and turn off Junk E-mail
filtering. To do so, from the
Optionstab, clickJunk E-Mail, and then select theDo not filter junk e-mailbutton; to reenable filtering, selectAutomatically filter junk e-mail. ClickSaveto enact your changes.Note: Even though filtering is turned off, the spam quarantine service will still continue to purge items that you leave in your
Junk E-mailfolder for longer than five days.
