For IU emergency notifications, how do I update my contact information?
Note: You will be prompted yearly to verify your contact information.
Note: These instructions apply only to individual students, faculty, and staff of Indiana University, i.e., individuals who have accounts in OneStart. You cannot use this process to opt into text messaging for shared cell phones, e.g., departmental cell phones. For special handling of departmental cell phones, contact the Support Center.
To review and update your personal Indiana University contact information for notification in the event of an emergency:
-
Log into OneStart.
- From the
Notificationstab, selectIU-Notifyon the left. Your personal contact information will be displayed.Note: If your contact information is not visible, see In the OneStart IU-Notify page, why don't I see my contact information?
- Add or edit the desired phone or email information. Be aware,
however, that some information is listed by default and you cannot
change it yourself; you can only edit contact information you have
entered yourself.
You can choose to receive alerts for multiple campuses by checking the box next to the campus listing on the right. You may want to do this if you are located at a campus different from the one that houses your academic program, or regularly work on multiple campuses, for example.
You cannot, however, remove the campus affiliations stored in your official record. These are checked and you cannot deselect them.
Note: The "IU office" number is published in the Global Address List and in the IU Address Book (
http://people.iu.edu/). If you have a private office number that you do not wish to make public, enter that in the "Office secondary" field. This will allow you to receive emergency notifications via your office number, and to list a central departmental or other line publicly. - Once you have updated your information or verified that it
is correct, click
save.If you are verifying because you were prompted after logging into OneStart, update or verify the information, check the box stating that you have done so, and click
verify. To exit the screen without verifying your information, click
verify later; you can then move to other screens in OneStart, but you will return to the verification screen every time you log into OneStart until you do verify.
In an emergency, Indiana University will send notifications to any or all of the following phone numbers and email addresses currently on file for you:
- Cellular
- Home
- IU office
- Text message
- Office secondary
- Cellular secondary
- IU email
- Non-IU email
Note: If you do not subscribe to a text messaging package, standard text messaging rates may apply.
