This content has been archived, and is no longer maintained by Indiana University. Information here may no longer be accurate, and links may no longer be available or reliable.

To set up Lync for Mac to access UniCom, you should first have a UniCom account. See ARCHIVED: Get started with UniCom/Skype for Business. After you have been enabled for UniCom:

  1. Download and install Lync for Mac. Alternatively, you can also run Lync from IUanyWare.
  2. Start Lync for Mac; see the icon circled below: The Lync icon looks like a stylized letter L.

Setup Assistant will walk you through the setup.

  3. After you agree to the license, click Sign In.
  4. Type your email address in the appropriate box. As in the image below, next to "User ID:", type ads\username, replacing username with your Network ID username. Next to "Password:", type your Network ID passphrase. Check the box to have the application remember your passphrase, if desired. Click Sign In.

Note: If you have a specialized domain for your email address, see ARCHIVED: UniCom sign-in address

Login screen for Lync for Mac

Upon completion of the setup process, Lync for Mac will launch and log you in. For additional settings, from the Lync menu, choose Preferences.

After selecting Preferences, you should see a phone icon (see below).

The Phone Calls icon appears in the menu bar between the General and Account icons.

If Lync for Mac displays an image of a microphone rather than a phone icon, you may not be enabled for Enterprise Voice. Contact your telecommunications coordinator or IT Pro if you believe this is in error or would like to be enabled for Enterprise Voice.

If you do not know who your telecommunications coordinator is, at IU Bloomington, call 812-856-2287, option 3; at IU Indianapolis, call 317-274-3004, option 3. You can also email Telecom and Network Services.

Note:
To learn the name of your department's local UITS support person, consult your supervisor, your departmental website, or IT People. If you still cannot identify your local UITS support person, call the UITS Support Center at 812-855-6789 (Bloomington) or 317-274-4357 (Indianapolis).
