About IU's WCMS
Indiana University's Web Content Management System (WCMS), an optional service for creating and managing web sites, is available at no charge to all IU units (faculty, staff, and student organizations with an administrative sponsor) on all campuses. The objective of the service is to provide a high-performance, reliable, and secure environment in which standard procedures, documentation, and training provide a framework for web content management.IU's WCMS uses Hannon Hill's Cascade Server, a scalable product for creating, editing, reviewing, approving, publishing, and retiring web content.
Accessible through any Internet-connected browser, Cascade Server allows site managers to administer their sites, assigning multiple roles for contributors, editors, and publishers. In combination with customizable workflows, this ensures that only approved content is published. Cascade Server provides versioning, repurposing of content for different devices, and full audit and reporting for system administrators.
Cascade Server uses the publishing/site update process within the tool to ship static HTML and text to web servers where the content is rendered, supporting the programming languages of that environment.
