At IUN, how do I map a network drive in Windows?
Note: If you are off campus, you will need to establish a VPN connection before connecting to a network drive; see The basics of VPN at IU.
To map a network drive at Indiana University Northwest in Windows 7, Vista, or XP:
- In Windows 7 and Vista, from the
Startmenu, openComputer.In Windows XP, from the
Startmenu, openMy Computer, and then, at the top, select theToolsmenu. - Click
Map Network Drive.... In the "Drive:" field, select a letter to assign to the drive. UITS recommends usingS:for departments andH:for home.
- To connect to the drive every time you start your computer, select
Reconnect at logon.
- In the "Folder:" field, enter the path name of the network drive:
- For a departmental folder, enter
\\nw-it-fs15.ads.iu.edu\data. - For your home folder, enter
\\nw-it-fs15.ads.iu.edu\username, replacingusernamewith your IU Network ID username.
Note: If you do not know the name of your departmental folder, please contact your department secretary.
- For a departmental folder, enter
- In Windows 7, check
Connect using different credentials, and then clickFinish.In Vista and XP, under the "Folder:" field, click
different user name. - In the window that appears, in the "User name:" field, enter
ads\username, replacingusernamewith your IU Network ID username. In the "Password:" field, enter your IU Network ID passphrase.
- Click
OK. In Vista and XP, clickFinish.
