At IU, what is a SharePoint My Site?
On this page:
Overview
At Indiana University, a SharePoint My Site is an individual web space provided to graduate students, faculty, and staff. My Sites are most useful for providing a web-based application for storing and editing documents and other content. Your My Site is also a social site you can use to network with your colleagues and track information of interest. There are three basic areas within a My Site:
-
My Newsfeed: Check your newsfeed for updates on
your colleagues.
-
My Content: Add personal and shared documents you
can access from any computer, edit your documents in the browser, and
create a personal blog. Your My Site has a 20 GB storage quota.
- My Profile: Add and edit personal details.
Eligibility and access
My Sites are available to IU graduate students, faculty, and staff. Others may be eligible with a faculty or staff sponsor. Faculty or staff sponsors should contact their campus Support Center to request access for others.
To create a site using My Site, log into the My SharePoint home page using your Network ID.
To access someone else's My Site, use the following URL, replacing
username with the person's Network ID username:
Note: If you have difficulties logging in, see Why am I having trouble logging into SharePoint at IU?
Managing your documents
In your SharePoint My Site, you can use the My Content area to
store personal and shared documents, and access them from any computer
on the Internet. Click My Content to manage documents on your
site. For more, see In my SharePoint My Site, how do I manage documents?
