To send email to recipients who use FidoNet, follow the instructions below:

  1. FidoNet uses full names to send mail, so you will need to know the full name of the recipient. You have to use . (a period) to separate the parts of a multi-part username; for example:
      John.Doe
  2. You will also need to know the FidoNet system node number (the FidoNode address) that the person uses. Then you will need to convert the FidoNode address to an Internet address. A FidoNode address looks like this:
      1:105/302.0
The 1: represents the North American FidoNet Zone (the Zone in Europe is 2, and the Zone in the Pacific Basin is 3). It and the .0 are usually part of the address by default, but sometimes they are left off. This example address translates as "Zone 1, Net 105, FidoNode 302, Point 0". To format the FidoNet address as an Internet address, you will reverse the order, as in the following:
      p0.f302.n105.z1
  3. To get the fully qualified domain name of a FidoNet user, to the end of the above example, you need to append the FidoNet domain, which is:
      .fidonet.org
  4. Additionally, in the completed address, you will leave off the p0, because it is just the default, since the point number is 0. Finally, you will have the following Internet address:
      John.Doe@f302.n105.z1.fidonet.org

Note: You do need to specify the point number if it is anything other than 0. For example, again for user John Doe, a FidoNet address of:

      2:105/4.3

would translate to the following Internet address:

      John.Doe@p3.f4.n105.z2.fidonet.org
