About annual HIPAA training requirements for UITS staff

To ensure the privacy and security of individually identifiable health information protected by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), and meet annual training requirements set by the HIPAA Security Rule, UITS personnel who manage systems or services that create, receive, maintain, or transfer data containing protected health information (PHI) must complete two HIPAA training courses every year. UITS staff who also use mobile devices for work purposes must complete an additional, one-time training course on mobile device security.

UITS staff who log into the IU Knowledge Base (KB) can see information on this page (below) about enrolling in and fulfilling the required trainings.

Note:
UITS staff who are logged into the KB but still cannot see the restricted-access content below should check with their supervisors to confirm they are members of the appropriate ADS security groups. If you are the supervisor of a UITS unit that (after logging into the KB) cannot view the restricted-access content below, contact the UITS Knowledge Management team to set up access for your team; include an ADS security group that can be used to grant access permissions to members of your staff.
