NCSA Mosaic was the first major web browser, and was available for Mac OS, Microsoft Windows (3.x, 95, and NT), and the X Window System. It was eclipsed by newer browsers such as Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer, and in early 1997 NCSA ceased development of Mosaic.
