Free wireless Internet access is sometimes offered in public areas such as libraries, coffee shops, and restaurants. To locate free wireless hotspots in your area, visit the Dmoz list of Public Access Hotspot Providers.

Most of the nationwide free dial-up Internet service providers (ISPs) have gone out of business. The only remaining providers are Juno and NetZero; with free service from these providers, you are limited to 10 hours of access per month. When using this service, banner advertisements are constantly displayed on your screen. In effect, you pay for Internet access by viewing advertisements. For more information, click the Free ISP link on the Juno or NetZero web sites. The FREE ISP link will not appear if you are using a Mac, as Juno and NetZero do not offer free access to Mac users.
