ARCHIVED: In Majordomo, how do I subscribe to a mailing list?
UITS has retired the Majordomo list server at Indiana University Bloomington. If you were the primary owner of an IUB Majordomo list, you can no longer use it to send mail. If you'd like to create a new mailing list, anyone with an IU Network ID username and passphrase can request a LISTSERV list. For instructions, see ARCHIVED: At IU, how do I request a new LISTSERV list? Also, for a collection of documents with general LISTSERV information, and information about owning and subscribing to LISTSERV lists at IU, see the Knowledge Base menu ARCHIVED: LISTSERV, distribution lists, and mass mailing.
To subscribe to a Majordomo mailing list, send an email
message to majordomo@host.domain
. Replace
host.domain
with the Internet address of the
computer hosting the Majordomo list. Leave the subject line blank, and
in the body of the message type:
subscribe listname
Replace listname
with the name of the list you'd like to
join. For example, to subscribe to a list called
iu_sailing_club
hosted at Indiana University, send an
email message to majordomo@indiana.edu
that
contains the line:
subscribe iu_sailing_club
Be sure to delete or disable any signature files because Majordomo will attempt to interpret these lines as commands. This will result in rejection of your subscription request.
Note: If the list's subscription policy is closed, when you try to subscribe, the owner of the list will be notified. The owner then must approve the subscription before you will be added to the list. You will receive a message to this effect. For more information about list subscription policies, see the Knowledge Base document ARCHIVED: In Majordomo, what are the differences between open, closed, and auto subscription policies?
