Submit the URL of your web page to search engines

You can improve your site's visibility by submitting its URL to various search engines. Some search engines allow you to see how your site is indexed, and therefore detect problems. For instructions on how to submit your website for indexing by Google, see Submit your website to Google.

You can also place a customized search engine within your site using Google Custom Search, which will allow you to have more control over the search results. For more, see Set up a Google Custom Search Engine for your IU website.

Pages at IU

When you submit a URL to search engines, some will use robots to verify the address. At Indiana University, the individual web page server, Pages (pages.iu.edu), has a default robots.txt file that denies access to all robots. Account owners can edit this file at any time to allow specific search robots to index their website, or delete the file to allow all search robots to index their website.
