ARCHIVED: In Windows 2000 or XP, how can I set the default telnet program?

If you set a default telnet program, when you click a telnet link in a web browser or other program, the link will be opened using the telnet program of your choice. You can set the default telnet program in Windows 2000 or XP by editing the operating system's file type associations:
- From the desktop, double-click the icon; in Windows XP, if there is no icon on the desktop, from the menu, select .
- From the menu, select .
- Click the tab.
- From the list of file types, scroll to find and select , and then click .
- In the "Actions:" field, click , and then click .
- Click ARCHIVED: In Windows, how do I locate a file if I know its name or its contents? and navigate to the folder where your telnet program is located. If you do not know where your telnet program is located, see
- Highlight the executable file for your telnet program and click the button.
- Click , click , and then click again.
If the telnet application doesn't launch properly from web pages, you may need to contact the vendor of your telnet program to find out how to make it work properly.
