ARCHIVED: In Microsoft Office 2003, XP, and 2000, how do I expand my drop-down menus?

By default, Microsoft Office 2003, XP, and 2000 collapse the drop-down menus so that the most common and recently used commands appear first. To expand the menu and view the hidden commands, click the down arrow at the bottom of the menu list. This will expand the menu temporarily until the next time you use the menu.

To expand the menu permanently, run any of the Office 2003, XP, or 2000 programs (such as Word, Outlook, etc.) and do the following:

  1. From the Tools menu, select Customize....
  2. Click the Options tab.
  3. In Office 2003 or XP, under "Personalized Menus and Toolbars", check Always show full menus, and then click Close.

In Office 2000, under "Personalized Menus and Toolbars", uncheck Menus show recently used commands first, and then click Close.

Making these changes in one Office 2003, XP, or 2000 program will affect all the others in the suite.
