ARCHIVED: In Windows 2000, how do I set up a login screen like the one in Windows NT 4.0?

Before proceeding, please make sure that you have an Administrator's account and password.

You can use the following steps to set up a login screen in Windows 2000:

  1. Click Start and select Settings, then Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Users & Password icon.
  3. Check Users must enter a username and password to use this computer.
  4. Click the Advanced tab.
  5. Check Require users to press Ctrl-Alt-Delete before logging on and click OK.
  6. When prompted, restart Windows 2000.

The next time Windows 2000 starts, it will ask for a username and password.

To disable this feature:

  1. From the Start menu, select Settings, then Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Users & Password.
  3. On the Advanced tab, uncheck the items in steps 3 and 5 above.
  4. Windows will ask for your administrative password. Then you will be prompted to restart Windows 2000.
