ARCHIVED: In Microsoft Word for Windows, how can I type foreign language characters?

In Microsoft Word, you can type some relatively common non-English characters by using the keystroke sequences listed below. Each sequence consists of a key combination to be pressed simultaneously (e.g., Ctrl-Alt-'), followed by a single character to be pressed separately. For other ways to generate non-English characters, see ARCHIVED: In Microsoft Word for Windows, how do I access foreign or special characters?

Note: You can use the Character Map tool in Windows to insert foreign language and other special characters into your documents. See article 315684 in Microsoft Help and Support.
