To uninstall McAfee VirusScan, first try the automatic uninstall feature. From the Start menu, find the folder that contains the McAfee VirusScan program. An Uninstall file should be in the same folder.

If that doesn't work, try the following steps:

Note: If this doesn't match what you see, refer to ARCHIVED: Get around in Windows.

  1. In Windows 7, from the Start menu, open the Control Panel. In Category view, select Programs. Under "Programs and Features", click Uninstall a program.

In Windows Vista, from the Start menu, open the Control Panel. Double-click Programs and Features.

In Windows XP, from the Start menu, select Settings, and then Control Panel. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.

  2. On the list of installed programs, select McAfee VirusScan.
  3. Click Add/Remove or Uninstall.

Note: If at any time you are prompted to remove shared files, answer Yes To All.

  4. Windows will attempt to remove McAfee VirusScan from your computer. If the operation is successful, you will need to restart your computer.

If you receive error messages or find that McAfee VirusScan was not completely removed, McAfee publishes an automated removal tool that may produce better results.

Note: Activate pre-installed McAfee products before uninstalling. Failure to activate before uninstalling may cause paid subscription information to be lost.
