Note: The following instructions apply only to Mac OS X 10.1 or later.

You can convert most documents to PostScript through the built-in Mac OS X printing options. Open the document in a Mac OS X-native application that supports the document format that you want to convert to PostScript, then follow these instructions:

  1. From the File menu, select Print....
  2. On the sheet that drops down or in the Print window that opens, from the Copies & Pages pull-down menu, select Output Options (OS X 10.2.x and later). In OS X 10.1.x, from the pull-down menu under "Saved Settings:", select Output Options.

Note: In some applications (e.g., Entourage v.X) you may not immediately see the system's print dialog upon selecting Print.... Instead, the application itself may have some printer preferences for you to set. However, once you have set these, the system's print dialog should appear.

  3. Select the checkbox next to Save as File, then from the pull-down menu next to "Format", choose PostScript.
  4. Click the Save... button, then in the Save to File window, choose a name and location for the PostScript file. Click Save to place the file on your computer.
