ARCHIVED: With a BlackBerry, how do I view and edit email attachments?

This content has been archived, and is no longer maintained by Indiana University. Information here may no longer be accurate, and links may no longer be available or reliable.

With a BlackBerry, you can open attachments with the filename extensions .docx/.doc, .xlsx/.xls, .pptx/.ppt, .pdf, .wpd, .txt, .html, .jpeg, .bmp, .gif, .png, and .tiff, as well as file types previously listed archived in .zip format. The attachment service converts the files to the Universal Content Stream (UCS) format and delivers them as email attachments to your device.

Viewing an attachment

To open an email attachment on your device:

  1. On the Home screen, select the Messages icon.
  2. Click the message with an attachment, and then click Open.
  3. Click to open the Message menu and choose Open Attachment. With a newer BlackBerry, the attachment will appear. With an older model, continue to step 4.
  4. On the Attachments screen, click Full Content, and then click Retrieve. You may see a clock face next to Full Content while downloading.

If you remain on the Attachments screen, it will automatically display the attachment once it is done downloading. If you go back to the Attachments screen later, you will see a checkmark next to Full Content when downloading is complete. To view the attachment, click Full Content, and then click View.

Editing an attachment

To edit an attachment, first copy it into the body of a new message or memo. See ARCHIVED: With a BlackBerry, how do I copy and paste?
