About Media Collections Online

On this page:

Media Collections Online provides online access to audio and video recordings from Indiana University collections and select scholarly projects.

Anyone may view publicly accessible items in Media Collections Online. However, the majority of content is restricted to authorized users based on course enrollment or departmental membership. This includes sound recordings previously served through the Variations system.

Media Collections Online is supported by the Library Technologies division of the IU Bloomington Libraries, with additional technology support from UITS. This resource is based on the open source Avalon Media System software co-developed by the libraries of IU Bloomington and Northwestern University.

Use Media Collections Online with your Canvas course

Media Collections Online provides LTI integration with Canvas. Instructors can add it as an external tool to their IU Bloomington courses. Generally, this is useful only when your course uses audio or video content that an IU Bloomington library has reserved for you in Media Collections Online. If you need help or have a question about adding Media Collections Online as an external tool in Canvas, contact the Media Collections Online support team.
