Paid Time Off (PTO) benefits provide time off for vacation, sick leave, funeral attendance, and other absences from work. As a full-time Professional staff employee, you earn 30 PTO days each year; after five years of service, you earn 36 days each year. You will be paid for your unused PTO when you separate from the university.

  • You can use PTO on the first day of the month or biweekly pay period following that in which you earn it. How you use and record PTO varies according to your salary plan (PAE, PAO, or PAU); see Submit your vacation or PTO (employees)
  • Each year, you can use only as much PTO as you earn in a year.
  • If you have unused PTO, you can carry it over to the next year; however, your accrued balance is capped at what you earn in one year (either 240 or 288 hours, depending on your length of time with the university) .
  • At the end of each year, you can allocate up to a maximum of 12 days of unused PTO to a sick leave account that has no limit, and can use that time to cover absences for personal and family medical needs.

  • Campus Holiday
  • Memorial Day
  • Independence Day
  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Friday after Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Day
