ARCHIVED: In Windows XP or Vista, how do I change existing users to Restricted users?

On your Windows XP or Vista computer at Indiana University, UITS recommends that all computer accounts be members of the Users Group (i.e., Restricted users) except for one designated administrator account with which you can perform system tasks. To move an existing account to the Users Group, log into the computer as the administrator and follow the directions below for your situation and operating system:
In the IU ADS domain
Windows Vista

- From the tab, click the name for the account that you want to move, and then click .
- From the tab, select . Alternatively, you can select , and from the drop-down menu next to it, select .
Windows XP
- From the menu, select , and then double-click the icon.
- From the tab, under "Users for this computer:", click the name for the account that you want to move, and then click .
- From the tab, select . Alternatively, you can select , and from the drop-down menu next to it, select .
On a computer not in a domain
Windows Vista
- From the menu, select , and then double-click .
- Under "Make changes to your user account", select .
- From the list that appears, double-click the name of the account you want to change.
- Under "Make changes to username's account" (where
username
is the name of the account you want to change), select . - Select , then click .
