The Network Weather Service (NWS) is a distributed system that periodically monitors and dynamically forecasts the performance of various network and computational resources over a given time interval. For the Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment (XSEDE), the NWS provides the predictions used in the ARCHIVED: HPC Queue Prediction tool available through the XSEDE User Portal.

The NWS operates a distributed set of performance sensors, and gathers readings of the instantaneous conditions. It then uses numerical models to generate forecasts of what the conditions will be for a given time frame. For more, see the NWS web site.
