ARCHIVED: Using Oncourse Modules, how do I sort and nest modules and content sections?

You can reorder modules and content sections at any time from within the Modules tool. You can also nest content sections up to ten nesting levels.

Sorting modules

  1. From your site's menubar, choose Modules.
  2. Click Author near the top of the page.
  3. Click Sort, and then Sort Modules.
  4. Under "New Sequence", choose the module you want to move, and then use the arrows on the right to move the module up or down. The double arrows move the module all the way to the top or all the way to the bottom.
  5. When you are finished reordering modules, you can either click Sort Sections or choose a different view from the top of the page. Your changes will be saved automatically when you exit the page.

Sorting sections

  1. From your site's menubar, choose Modules.
  2. Click Author near the top of the page.
  3. Click Sort, and then Sort Sections.
  4. Use the drop-down menu to choose the module for which you want to sort sections.
  5. Under "New Sequence", choose the section you want to move, and then use the arrows on the right to move the section up or down. The double arrows move the section all the way to the top or all the way to the bottom.

    If you want to nest sections, put them in the proper order as you are sorting them. See the instructions below on nesting content sections.

  6. When you are finished reordering sections, you can either choose a different module from the drop-down menu or choose a different view from the top of the page. Your changes will be saved automatically when you exit the page.

Moving sections between modules

  1. From your site's menubar, choose Modules.
  2. Click Author near the top of the page.
  3. Check the box next to the content section you wish to move. You can check more than one box.
  4. Click Move Section(s) near the top of the page.
  5. Select the module into which you'd like to move the sections, and then click Save.

Nesting content sections

  1. From your site's menubar, choose Modules.
  2. Click Author near the top of the page.
  3. Check the box next to the content section you wish to nest. You can check more than one box. Modules cannot be nested.
  4. Click Left or Right near the top of the page to move the section(s) left or right. If you want to nest a section more than one level, you will have to check the box each time you move it.

    The Modules tool automatically renumbers sections as you change their nesting levels. Students can see these numbers when they click a module name to enter it, but from the Table of Contents view, students see a bulleted list with the appropriate nesting levels.
