To restore individual files or directories using the Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) GUI client:

  1. From the main TSM window, click Restore.
  2. To ensure that you see all versions of a file eligible for restore, click the View option from the top toolbar, and verify that the Display active/inactive option is set.
  3. Expand the directory tree, and then check the boxes next to the files and directories you want to restore. To search or filter files:
    1. From the toolbar, click Find.
    2. In the "Find Files (Restore)" window, enter your search criteria, and then click either Search or Filter to search or filter files, respectively.
    3. Check the boxes next to the files you want to restore, and then close the "Matching Files (Restore)" window.
  4. To modify restore options for the current session only, click Options.
  5. Click Restore, and then enter the destination in the "Restore Destination" window.
  6. Click Restore. The "Restore Task List" window will display the status of the restore.

Things to consider

  • When you start the TSM client in Linux, Unix, or Mac OS X using TSM Tools for Administrators, the client runs with a UID of zero. This means that if the client creates folders during the restore process, they will be owned by root. To access the files after restoring, you must use sudo chown; for instructions, enter man chown.
  • If you restore files with the replace option set to no, existing files will not be overwritten, but existing directories will. To leave existing directories intact, click Options, then choose Files only from the All selected files and directories drop-down menu.
  • If you restore folders from a UFS or HFSX file system to an HFS file system, differences in case will be ignored, and two folders whose names differ only in case will be restored to one folder.
