ARCHIVED: How do I use my Turning Technologies ResponseWare Web account in class?

This content has been archived, and is no longer maintained by Indiana University. Information here may no longer be accurate, and links may no longer be available or reliable.
Note:
Top Hat is replacing TurningPoint Cloud as Indiana University's integrated student response system in 2017. TurningPoint Cloud will continue to be available for spring and summer terms, but will no longer be supported in fall 2017. Instructors planning to use Top Hat for summer or fall 2017 should complete the Top Hat planning form to ensure wireless coverage and technology support is available.

Before following the instructions below, you should have created a ResponseWare Web account and registered it in your class.

Connecting to a session

To prepare to answer your instructor's questions, connect to a ResponseWare Web session. To connect using a web browser:

  1. Go to:
      https://responseware.turningtechnologies.com/responseware/
  2. Type the session ID provided by your instructor and click Join Session.
  3. Type your email address and your Turning Technologies password (not your IU Network ID passphrase) in the fields provided. Click Sign In.
  4. Type your IU user ID into the field provided and click Join.
Note:
Your screen should refresh automatically when the instructor opens the polling for a question, but if your device doesn't support AJAX, JavaScript, or HTTP requests, you may see a Refresh button that you will need to click to advance to the questions and the results.

Answering questions

When the instructor opens polling, you will see the question and response choices (if applicable). To answer, click your response choice, or, for text answers, type the text and click Submit Essay (in the iPhone app, select Done). Your screen will indicate that your response has been received, and your choice will be highlighted. You can change your answer as long as polling is open.

After polling closes, you will see the results for the class as a whole on your screen.

Note:
To change the display to a standard keypad layout, click Answer Text View, and then select Keypad View.

Ending a session

Disconnecting from a session removes you from the current session, but does not log you off the ResponseWare Web system.

To disconnect when using a web browser or the Android or iPhone app, from the response screen, click Leave. When prompted to confirm, click Leave.

To log out of the ResponseWare Web server completely, disconnect from the session, and then, from the "Welcome" screen, click Logout.
