In addition to the general best practices that will help you create more accessible social media content, TikTok offers certain features that can make your videos more accessible to more people. The TikTok app itself poses several challenges to accessibility. The decision to use TikTok for official university social media should be considered very carefully.

Supported features

• Add and edit captions for your videos. Make sure the captions are accurate.
• Turn on text-to-speech to convert your video's typed text to voice-over. Tip: Loud background music can overpower the text-to-speech voice.
• TikTok warns creators using certain effects that may trigger an epileptic seizure and allows viewers to "Skip All" videos containing these effects.
• Turn off animated video thumbnails to show static thumbnail images instead.
• Turn on dark mode to give the app a dark background.
• Turn on auto volume adjustment to prevent videos playing too loudly. This does not change your device's volume setting.

Features not supported

• Images included in videos do not have alt text and must be described in the video.
