About end of life for Vista and Windows XP

Microsoft discontinued support for Windows Vista on April 11, 2017, and for Windows XP on April 8, 2014. As such, these operating systems no longer receive critical security updates. To ensure the highest security standards, the Support Center no longer registers Vista or XP devices to the Indiana University network. UITS strongly recommends that you look into the options for replacing or upgrading your Vista and XP computers for full compatibility with IU systems. For details, see Install Windows at IU.

Since most computers running Vista and XP are several years old, many may be incapable of running newer Windows operating systems.

If you're affiliated with IU, for more about purchasing equipment, see ComputerGuide: Deals by vendor, recommendations, and common questions.
