Hardware and software requirements for School of Dentistry student laptops

To successfully run the axiUm application and the ExamSoft testing software, these minimum hardware and software requirements are based on the software vendors' recommendations.

Note:
Tablet PCs, including the Microsoft Surface, will not run the exam software and thus are not recommended for use at this time. Also, Chromebooks are not allowed, since they cannot have full disk encryption and will also not run the exam software.
  • Minimum hardware requirements:
    • Processor: 2 GHz Intel Core/Celeron or equivalent x64 processor
    • Display resolution must be at least 1024 x 768 or higher
    • Wireless connectivity
    • At least 1 USB port
    • At least 8 GB RAM
    • At least 250 GB hard drive (solid-state drive recommended)
    • 2 GB free HDD space
    • Webcam
    • Microphone
    • 2 Mbps upload speed
    • CPU equivalent to Intel i3 2+ GHZ
  • Minimum software requirements:
    • Microsoft Windows 10 Professional, Enterprise, or Education editions (Version 1809 or 1903)
    • Macintosh OS X 10. 15 or higher (Catalina)
    • Acrobat Reader 11 or DC
    • Microsoft Office 2016, 2019, or Office 365
    • Full hard disk encryption software (BitLocker for Windows and FileVault for MAC)
    • Anti-virus software

    Health Technology Services (HTS) Phone Support will provide guidance and assistance to any students who have questions regarding these minimum requirements, or need assistance with configuring the device for use in the school environment. HTS will be able to refer the students to additional resources such as other UITS units or the device manufacturer. For assistance, email HTS Phone Support.
