Indiana University has developed an integration between the Canvas Assignments Tool and IU's Advising Records (AdRx) application that allows students to share a copy of a specific assignment submission with their advisor. This feature is typically used in assignments focused on academic and career planning.

Instructors:
  • Enabling the "Share with my advisor" feature in a Canvas assignment requires prior approval and technical arrangement with multiple teams. To initiate a request, contact the UITS LMS Development Team.
  • Currently this feature only supports File Upload assignments. Quizzes, surveys, media recordings, and text entry assignments are not eligible.

To share an assignment submission with your advisor:

  1. In Canvas, open the assignment to be shared.
  2. When you are ready to submit your work, click Submit Assignment.
  3. Use the file upload options to browse for and select the file(s) you wish to submit. Then click Submit Assignment again.
  4. If the assignment has been configured to allow you to send a copy of your submission to your advisor, a Share with my advisor button will appear at the right, just below your submission information. Click Share with my advisor to transmit a copy of your submission to the AdRx system.

Both you and your advisor will receive a notification that the documents have been sent.
